Principal’s Update – Term 3, 2023

Sep 28, 2023 | principal's update

We are nearly to the end of term and are looking forward to finishing on a high note with our Colour Fun Run.

I’d like to send a MASSIVE thank you out to Briana Field and her team of volunteers for all that they do and all that they have done this term. The Bunnings Sausage Sizzle was a huge undertaking and we are very appreciative of the efforts and outcome. There was about $1500 raised on the day!

A pre-thank you needs to go to everyone who is helping out at the Colour Fun Run. I am sure it will be awesome!

Another MASSIVE thank you needs to go to all of the parent/family volunteers that have helped at school and on the larger than usual number of excursions and sporting events this term. We can’t do this without the help and support of families. We are super conscious of not asking too much of you and understand that you can’t do everything. We have a lot of events and excursions in Term 4 and are already highly appreciative of the help we will receive.

If you see Briana Field or any of the fundraising team and volunteers out and about, please make sure to thank them for their efforts.

STAFFING

We have some staffing changes for Term 4.

Allana Wait finished up this term to head on an overseas adventure for the rest of the year. We are all very excited for her and thankful for all she has given this year.

Sarah Smale will be stepping into the Junior Primary Health role on Wednesdays and Thursdays but will still manage choirs and Fridays with her Year 5/6 class.

Emily Tessari will be fulltime in her classroom in Term 4.

Caitlin McClay will begin her tenure as Student Wellbeing Leader and we are excited to welcome her to the Porties’ Family. She has already started gathering information from staff and reading up about student needs. Look out for her next term.

There needs to be a huge amount of appreciation to Mike Woolford and Sebastian Braim for their time in leadership in Term 3 to cover the unexpected departure of Victoria. They have provided invaluable support across the school to students, staff and families. Despite their unwavering efforts in leadership, they are both happy to be back in their ‘real’ jobs. Mike has certainly been missing the peace and solitude of the gym.

I’d also like to recognise the contribution of the whole staff team who have continued to raise learning outcomes for our students despite the large number of disruptions to their work. Our Porties’ family of students, staff, families and the broader community is one that I am always proud to be a part of.

I am so excited that our Nature Play space has been started with the archway under construction and the Teepee structures happening soon. The space should be ready to use at the start of Term 4. We will need to make a schedule for its use initially as I expect it will be a highly desired play space. Thanks to everyone involved in making this happen at Porties.

Thank you all again for your time, commitment and care.

Take care,

Marie
