Starting School
In 2014 the DECD admission policy for children starting school changed. All children will start preschool and school on the same day, the first day of Term 1. This brings South Australia into line with all other states and ensures that all children receive four terms of preschool and four terms of Reception.

If your child turns four before May 1, they will start preschool on the first day of Term 1 in that year. If your child turns four on or after May 1, they will start preschool on the first day of Term One the following year.

If your child turns five before May 1, they will start school on the first day of Term One in that year. If your child turns five on or after May 1, they will start school on the first day of Term One the following year.

In South Australia, it is compulsory for children to be enrolled in primary school by their sixth birthday. Currently, most students in South Australia start school at age five. Use the Same First Day calculator to find out when your child will start primary school. Click here to view the DECD Starting School page.

The Port Noarlunga Primary School Starting School Programme is for children commencing in Reception at our school in 2018 and live within the school zoning area. This programme is run on Friday afternoons by our Reception teachers in the Early Years Unit and is a play based programme. For more information and enrolment forms please contact Jan Mangnoson on 83822455.
